Roatan, Honduras - August 12th-19th, 2023

The Scubanauts will dive CocoView Resort in Roatan, Honduras again in 2023.

The trip cost will vary depending upon what type of accommodations you want.

Accommodations and Costs:

  • Cabanas and Bungalows $1759.26. (Oceanfront, over water Cabanas and Beach House rates differ depending on housing option selected)
  • Beach House 5 (accommodates 3 divers) $TBD
  • Non diver rate is ~$100 less off of each room
  • There is an additional charge of $200 / $400 per week for a single diver in a room rather than dual occupancy per room.
  • Please see www.cocoviewresort.com/rates for more info on deposit deadlines and cancellation policies.
  • Airfare is separate as we are not booking a group airfare. You can use CoCo View's travel agency (see their web site), or can instead opt to use your own frequent flier miles or book your own flights. It's too early for us to post typical airfare rates.
  • The above prices do not include alcohol, departure taxes, gratuities, or any side trips. We will all be staying on-premises at CoCo View Resort.

  • Rates DO include the new Honduran 19% hotel tax

We've made Scubanuats club trips to this resort well over a dozen times; always with great satisfaction. Some of our members have already completed their first 9 (week) trips and got a great reward! After every 9 (week) trips CoCoView provides the 10th week trip free. And, yes, if you go for the two consecutive weeks this counts as 2 (week-long) "trips".

CoCoView claims to be the top-rated international dive resort in the world in terms of rthe percentage of divers that return for another visit. We can see why. Very few Scubanauts that have ever made the trip once have failed to return.

Traveling during the ever-evolving Covid-19 Pandemic has the potential for surprises. Trip insurance is strongly suggested as is choosing to buy refundable airfare if not accommodated by your trip insurance.

As of this writing there are still significant Covid-19 vaccination / testing requirements for this trip. These are fluid and change frequently so make sure you re-check them well in advance of the trip. Here is what we understand at this point:

As of February 2023, CoCo View's website says that Honduras still requires you use their national "pre-check" website before arriving. Fully vaccinated individuals with their original vaccination certificate do NOT need to provide proof of a negative COVID test upon entry in Honduras.

Honduras requires that arriving passengers who cannot provide proof of full vaccination must hand-carry the negative test results for a PCR or rapid test taken less than 72 hours before entry into Honduras. Passengers must show the test results at check-in.

In 2022 once Honduras had declared their requirements to enter, the U.S. airlines would also not let you even board the initial outbound flight without showing that same proof. This may well be the same this year.

At this point the USA's Covid policy for returning to the US is also changing frequently and so will be updated here as our departure gets closer.

Contact Nica for more information or to make arrangements for early or late departure or arrival.

Roatan, Honduras - July 9th-16th and 16th-23rd, 2022

The Scubanauts will dive CocoView Resort in Roatan, Honduras again in 2022. Our usual trip is a 1-week affair. But during our 2021 trip we had a number of divers that had schedule to stay for a 2nd week and ended up loving it!

Since the air fare is the same regardless of stay length the 2nd week is effectively far cheaper than the first.

The two weeks involved here are back to back. You can choose to book for one week (either week) or for two.

The trip cost will vary depending upon what type of accommodations you want. Rates for Cabanas and Bungalows are $1,704.76 PP for 1 week and 2 week trips are $3,300.52. See Nica for rates on Beach Houses. The deposit is $50 PP to hold your room and are due now. An additional $50 of deposit is due in January. Deposits become non-refundable March 9th. The balance is due at the April 13th meeting in 2022. Please see www.cocoviewresort.com/rates for more info on deposit deadlines and cancellation policies.

Airfare is separate as we are not booking a group airfare. You can use the CoCo View's travel agency (see their web site), or can instead opt to use your own frequent flier miles or book your own flights. It's too early for us to post typical airfare rates.

  • All meals
  • Two 2-tank boat dives a day: each trip including a 1-tank dive at a selected site with the group escorted by one or more D/M and an optional 2nd drop-off dive on return to the resort; resulting in up to 4 tanks daily from the boat
  • In addition there is unlimited shore diving any time day or night for no extra charges
  • Tanks, weights, and belts
  • Free use of ocean kayaks and paddleboards
  • Upgrading to unlimited Nitrox for the trip adds approximately $125 per week (2021 rate)
Optional all-day and remote destination trips may also be offered during the week at an additional cost. The above prices do not include alcohol, departure taxes, gratuities, or any side trips. We will all be staying at CoCo View Resort.

If you want to arrive early or depart late and wish to purchase additional room and meals, this can be usually be worked out. But please let us know well in advance.

As of this writing there are still significant Covid-19 testing requirements to re-enter the U.S. after the trip. On January 12, 2021, the CDC issued an order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to have been tested no more than 3 days before their return flight departs and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight to return here.

For 2021 Honduras also required you use their national "pre-check" website to pre-provide proof of vaccination and travel information before arrival to enter their country as well as to pre-provide the same same negative result required by the U.S. to return before arriving at the Roatan airport to depart.

Once Honduras had declared you couldn't clear customs to enter their country without proof of prior vaccination, the U.S. airlines would also not let you even board the initial outbound flight without showing that same proof.

When we contacted CoCoView about this for the 2021 trip, they said they were aware of this new negative-test-before-return requirement and provided a way to handle compliance. For 2021's trip you could get the test sample drawn on-site by CoCoView's resident nurse and the resort handled getting it transported to an approved facility for the tests to be done and the results returned in time for departure. For that trip they provided the service for $85 per guest; a cheaper rate than otherwise expected in Roatan at large.

Provided you had done your homework as detailed above, it all actually worked fairly smoothly. We don't, of course, yet know what - if any - the Covid-related requiredments will be in 2022. We'll continue to update this issue as more information is available.

Contact Nica for more information or to make arrangements for early or late departure or arrival.

For those using a GPS to get to the hotel, make sure you enter the hotel address into your Nav system as North Palm Beach; not West Palm Beach. There is an identical address to the Super 8's in West Palm; but it's several miles further south and, of course, nothing but a wasted trip.

That hotel has a pool and offers a refrigerator and microwave in each room. It's minutes from Marina. There is a complimentary breakfast. Rates start at $64.00/ night

Offshore Jacksonville - August 23, 2014

The Scubanauts will dive offshore Jacksonville August 23rd, 2014.

The trip is with Offshore Dive Charters on the boat Diamond Divert docked at Morningstar Marina. Please note this is not where it used to be on the NW side of the cut at 9954 Heckscher Drive. Morningstar bought what used to be the old Mayport Marine marina at 4852 Ocean St, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233. For a while, they owned both locations, but now apparently have sold the Hecksher Drive side location to an outfit from Georgia.

So Diamond Diver is now docked close to directly across the river from its old location; just a couple of hundred yards towards NAS from the Ferry landing / Singleton's Restaurant / etc. The slip is right next to where Native Diver used to dock for so many years at (then) Mayport Marine.

This will be a three-tank dive day. Dive plan for depths in the 75 to 100 foot range.

The cost will be $100 per diver ..A deposit of $50 will hold your spot with the balance due at the June club meeting. Cancellations must be made prior to 72 hours out unless your spot can be filled.

The boat provides water, soft drinks and snacks. You'll need to provide your own tanks.

Pompano, Florida Dive Weekend Trip - July 3-4, 2010

We'll be diving Pompano, Florida 4th of July weekend. The trip can be tailored by those who only want to do part of the dives, so here is the scoop for each piece.

There will be two hotel options:

  • Best Western Deerfield Beach at 1050 E Newport Center Dr Deerfield Beach, FL, 33442. Cost is $88.85 Double occupancy/night. This hotel is newer than The Sands Harbor, but is approximately 5 miles from the boat docks and west of the imtercoastal. It also does have a more friendly cancelation policy than The Sands.
  • Sands Harbor Hotel and Marina at 125 N Riverside Dr Pompano Beach, F,. 33062. Cost is $80.00 Double occupancy/night. The advantage to using this location is that it is very close to either docks that South Florida Diving uses as well as being walking distance to the beach for Fire Works. The hotel management is not giving us a ton of flexibility. So the best package we've negotiated only allows us to cancel a week from out first night stay. The hotel is aging which is another disadvantage of this location.

The schedule will be:

  • Friday PM · Arrive and check in.
  • Saturday AM South Florida Diving (www.southfloridadiving.com) · 8AM 2 tank Dive ($55.00). One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Saturday PM · 1PM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Saturday Night · 6PM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Sunday AM · 8AM 2 tank Dive ($55.00) One wreck dive; one drift dive.
  • Sunday afternoon · Return to Jacksonville

Rental tanks will be available at $8.00/per tank for air or $12.00/per tank for Nitrox or you can bring your own. Contact Tony Flaris at 210-4550 for further information
